Today is the 11th September and it is almost Christmas. The Highway Art Exhibition this past weekend was poorly attended and there were very few sales. I demonstrated an oil painting of a farmscape which is in its near to final stages, but I am busy getting my paintings done for the Hilton Arts Festival next week, which means the farmscape has to wait. I am hoping that this new venue will be a good one for me as it is my first time there and the public that is expected will be far different from those that frequent the Art in the Park. Here's hoping for a good show and wonderful weather. Should any of my followers wish to visit me there, I will be in the CFI classroom. Hope to see you there.
The year has almost gone again and I feel robbed of time. Well it is official. My house is on the market and as soon as it sells, we are relocating to Austria. I am not happy because I have a following here in South Africa and I know how and where to market my art. It is going to be like learning to walk all over again. I will write on my blog when it happens, in the meantime I am still painting away and hoping that things will improve as I really would love to stay in the land of my birth.
I am working flat out for the Art in the Park which opens on the 30th May and runs until the 3rd June 2012. Hope that there will be lots and lots of buyers this year and that the weather will be fantastic. If you read this, come and say hello.
Well it is now 2012 and I am another year older and can feel it. What with the house work I have been faced with and the flood damage over this festive season, I am now faced with my work load of creating a brand new stand for the art in the park which is from the 30th May to the 3rd June this year. Ideas are the hardest to come by because it is too risky to go out and paint in the open - will have to rely on my creative brain. Drawing is not back yet and once that starts again, the art flows more freely. Nothing like drawing a person from life, it helps build confidence and develop ones own personal style. Just love it! Well the brushes are waiting for the serious stuff - even though I have been at it daily after housework, I must get the big paintings done and build up a huge stock of small stuff for the not so serious buyers.
Flooded out. The rain came down in buckets on Sunday night the 27th November after a very windy day exhibiting at the Botanical Gardens. Two thirds of my house was flooded and I was very fortunate because I took the time to hang all the paintings back on the walls that I had at the Gardens. Mopping up has exhausted me and damage to furniture has depressed me. I will pick up a paint brush and do some serious art again soon. In the meantime, I am just fiddling around with art that I am not happy with.
These were done while I was waiting at the doctor's rooms.
On going through my sketchbook that I draw in at every opportunity, I decided to put a few on my blog.
It is Saturday the 12th November and after I have done some necessary shopping, I will be going back to the studio where I spend most of my life and complete some of the back log of oil paintings that I seem to start and instead of completing, I start new ideas - I need to backtrack and finish off some. This is actually one the reasons that I suddenly seem to have so many new paintings, it is because I block in my ideas and hopefully complete them at some guilty stage. There are times that I don't want to complete the painting because the idea has lost it's appeal for me, so I will block in something new over and that too will sit for a while before I complete it.
I spent an enjoyable morning at the life drawing group in Westville yesterday and I actually like some of the sketches that I did. Great when you get home and take another look at what you have done in a mirror and see that they were better than you thought. The 22 October 2011 was a very enjoyable day for me. I spent it at the Methodist Church Hall in Westville with Barbara Moore the chairperson for the National body of the Watercolour Society. She gave us all a workshop on Sketch book journalling. Although I have a habit of sketching the general public all the time, I enjoyed the sharing of ideas and for the first time, I spent the day sketching everyone else in the room and used watercolour paint. Had so much fun. I have just completed my demonstration for the Watercolour Society of South Africa in Johannesburg and it went off very well. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and I most certainly did. Nice to be in Johannesburg again.
